Golf Guest Policies

The overriding intent of the policies written below is to provide as much flexibility as possible for MHCC members within necessary rules below. The authority for flexibility will rest primarily with the Head Golf Professional who will consult with the Golf Chairman as necessary.

Definitions
  • Individual Guests – one member and one or two guests; two members and two guests (includes couples)
  • Guest Group – one member and three guests
  • Combined Guest Group – two or more “Guest Groups” or a combination of “Guest Groups” and “Individual Guests” totaling more than 7 guests which is formed by one member who has financial responsibility for the group and who invites at least one other MHCC member for each 7 additional guests
  • Family Member – the Family Fee applies to the immediate family of the member or member’s spouse further defined as a parent, a non-student, non-member son or daughter and their significant other, a brother or sister, and a grandson or granddaughter. A son or daughter of a golf member enrolled in high school, technical school, or college (including graduate school) is considered a member.
  • Spousal Member – spouse or significant other of golf member. Other than Wednesday morning and short periods on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday when only one member of a member family (male or female) may play, spousal members are welcome to play at any time.
  • Junior - son or daughter of a golf member. A junior member 16 or older has golf privileges as outlined below. A junior member under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or adult member unless excused from this restriction at the discretion of the Golf Professional staff.
General Rules
  • Unless otherwise scheduled, the daily limit of Guests per day is 36 and will be monitored by the Golf Professional. This limit may be added to by the Golf Professional on the day of play only and only at his or the Golf Chairman’s discretion.
  • Tee times may be made ONE WEEK in advance of the date desired either by the Golf Shop staff or on Foretees. Guest names must be registered in advance with the Golf Shop prior to play. Members may make tee times more than one week in advance provided there is at least one guest in each tee time being reserved. There is a $10 advance reservation fee for each tee time reserved.
  • Please inform the golf shop of cancellations as much as possible in advance.
  • A host member must play in each foursome with the exception that the host member may have up to 7 guests, playing in two consecutive tee times during “Guest Group” play times.
  • It is the host member’s responsibility that his/her guests adhere to MHCC rules. Violations of rules by the host member or his/her guests will be brought to the attention of the Board of Directors which retains the authority to assign disciplinary action up to and including membership revocation.
  • No individual may play as a guest more than four times in one year even if sponsored by different MHCC members.
  • Guests must adhere to MHCC dress policies
  • MHCC member hosting 3 or more guests must use caddies or electric carts / forecaddies
Guest Play Time Policy

Individual Guest - May play at any time a member is permitted to play except:
  • Holidays (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day) – contact golf professional for guest times subject to MHCC member golf activities
  • Saturday and Sunday – No more than one guest per tee time before 9:30 a.m. Two or three guests after 9:30 a.m.
  • Wednesday – No more than one guest per tee time before 9:30 a.m. (Ladies guest events excluded) 
  • Thursday – No more than one guest per tee time between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Two or three guests before 11:00 a.m. and after 2:00 p.m.
Guest Group - Monday Any time after 1:00 p.m. (if no outside outing)
  • Tuesday After 1:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday After 1:00 p.m.
  • Thursday Before 11:00 a.m; After 2:30 p.m.
  • Friday Before 11:00 a.m; After 1:00 p.m.
  • Saturday After 11:00 a.m.
  • Sunday After 9:30 a.m.
Combined Guest Group – Contact Golf Professional at least two weeks prior to desired play date for approval

SENIOR MEMBERS

These members with membership classification “Senior Member” should golf in off-peak hours whenever possible.

PRACTICE AREA RULES
  • The Practice Range, Putting Greens, and Chipping/Pitching Green are open to all golf members & their Guests from opening until closing each day with following exceptions:
  • Monday Practice range is closed Mondays, putting greens and chipping/pitching green are open at 12:00 noon.
  • Tuesday During summer months while Junior Golf Program is in progress, practice range open to only Junior Golfers until lessons are finished. All other practice areas open at 10:00 a.m.
  • Wednesday Members with Wednesday morning tee time have right of way until 9:00 a.m.
  • Thursday Open to all until 10:00 a.m. From 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. adults with afternoon tee time have right of way. No Juniors may use any Practice Facility between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Juniors age 15 and older may use the Practice Facilities alone after 3:00 p.m. Juniors ages 14 and younger may use Practice Facilities after 3:00 p.m. if accompanied by Parent.
Range to close for picking and maintenance:
April-September Closes at dusk
October-November Closes at 5:00 p.m.

GENERAL GOLF PROCEDURE
  • Please check in with the golf shop before teeing off.
  • Any dispute over the Rules of Golf should be referred to the professional staff. Dispute over rules of the playing of club matches must be referred to the Golf Committee and its decision shall be final.
DRESS CODE

It is expected that Members of Merrill Hills and their families will choose to dress in a fashion befitting the surroundings and atmosphere provided in the setting of the Club. It is also expected that Members and their families will advise their guests, including children, of the dress requirements. Dress for children should be in keeping with standards set for adults.  The club reserves the right to make determinations regarding inappropriate or questionable attire and appreciates your cooperation.
 
Appropriate Clubhouse Attire
The dress code for the Clubhouse, which includes the foyer, mezzanine, meeting rooms, and all dining areas, is “Club Casual”.
 

For Gentlemen: “Club Casual” includes shirts with sleeves and a collar that is at least 1’ in width including turtlenecks and mock turtlenecks, slacks or dress shorts that are no more than 4” (4) inches above the back of the knee.

For Women: “Club Casual” includes dresses, a shirt with either a collar or sleeves, slacks, Capri pants, golf skirts or shorts that are no more than 4” (4) inches above the back of the knee.

For All: Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times.  Dress for special events may be defined for that occasion and prevailing dress definitions may be changed.

Denim attire is permitted in Clubhouse at all times (unless otherwise specified for a party or event) providing it is tasteful and in acceptable country club condition; absent of acid stains, tears, rips and frayed bottoms. Jeans should be considered “dress” jeans. Cargo Shorts/pants are not permitted in the club house.

Denim is NOT permitted on the Golf Course, driving ranges or practice areas.

Shorts shorter than four (4) inches above the back of the knee, swimwear, exercise attire, bare midriffs, men's tank tops or abbreviated attire (e.g. halter tops, etc.) are not permitted.

Appropriate golf shoes (no metal spikes) or approved shoes must be worn on the golf course and practice areas at all times. Members are strongly encouraged to clean their shoes before entering the dining areas or golf shop.

Men and women must remove their hats and caps while seated in the dining room.

Appropriate Golf Course Attire
For Men: includes shirts with sleeves and a collar that is at least 1’ in width including turtlenecks and mock turtlenecks that is tucked in at all times and slacks, knickers or shorts that are not shorter than four (4) inches above the back of the knee.

For Women: includes a shirt with either a collar or sleeves and a golf skirt or shorts that is not shorter than four (4) inches above the back of the knee or tailored slacks.

For All: Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times. Golf hats must be worn
with the brim forward.

Denim and cargo shorts/pants are NOT allowed on the golf course, driving ranges or practice areas.

Further inappropriate golf attire would be short shorts, athletic or jogging shorts, cut-offs, swimming suits, halter tops and fish net tops

Pool and Tennis Complex Attire
Appropriate tennis wear is expected on the tennis courts and is acceptable in the Pool and Tennis Complex. Denim attire is permitted in the pool area





 
CART RULES
  • Cart privileges are restricted to members and guests - children without valid driver’s licenses may not drive golf carts at any time.
  • Carts may not be used on days when course is closed to carts.
  • Areas around greens and tees will be marked and all carts must be operated outside of the marked areas. Please keep carts at least 30 feet from tees and greens at all times

  • Any and all groups on Tuesday
